It was a decade ago that Kannada cinema’s action queen Malashree made a comeback to films with Shakti, which was her first film outside of her home banner in 14 years. In the time since, the veteran actress has done films like Veera, Election, Gharshane, Ganga, etc., her last being the 2017 Uppu Huli Khara, which was directed by choreographer-turned-director, Imran Sardhariya.
The actress, who lost her husband, veteran film producer Koti Ramu to Covid a year ago, during the devastating second wave of the pandemic, had to first oversee the release of his last production, the Prajwal Devaraj starrer Arjun Gowda and is now set to return to acting again.
This time around, Malashree will be seen in the role of an army doctor in an as-yet-untitled film directed by Ravindra Venshi. This is the actress’ second outing ever as a doctor, a role she says she is thrilled to take on. The film, meanwhile, is a thriller with mass elements and revolves around events that occur at a hospital. The film, which is currently in production, also stars Sadhu Kokila, Rangayana Raghu, Pramod Shetty and Manju Pavagada. This is Ravindra’s fourth film, although only one has hit theatres so far and two others await release. The action-thriller is apparently based on real-life incidents and will have Malashree in a never-before-seen avatar.
The team assures that the film will see Malashree in her signature style and there will be mass elements that will appeal to her fans. The actress says that she took up the role because she liked it and since being on the set keeps her happy. Apart from acting, Malashree is also looking at keeping the legacy of their home banner alive by producing more films.
