Kanguva, the upcoming Suriya starrer directed by Siva is gearing up for an October 2024 release. The overseas rights of the film are reportedly sold for a whopping price.

Kanguva, the period fantasy film which stars Suriya in the titular role, is one of the most anticipated upcoming projects in Tamil cinema. The project marks the National Award-winning actor’s first onscreen collaboration with director Siva. The recently released Kanguva trailer hints that the actor-director duo is bringing a never-seen-before cinematic experience to the world, on October 10, 2024. Meanwhile, the overseas rights of the Suriya starrer have been sold for a record price.
If the reports are to be believed, the overseas rights of Kanguva have been sold, for a whopping price of Rs. 40 crore. The grapevine suggests that it is one of the biggest ever overseas deals, in the history of Tamil cinema. The overseas rights of the period fantasy film have been bagged by the famous UAE-based banner, Phars Films. It is also the all-time biggest overseas rights deal in the career of its leading man, Suriya.
Recently, it was rumoured that the release of Kanguva might get pushed from October 10, 2024, to a new date. The rumour mills suggested that the makers of the Suriya starrer are keen to have a solo global release, and have no plans to clash with Vettaiyan, the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer which has been slated to be released on the same date. However, the sources close to the project slammed the reports and confirmed that Kanguva will hit the theatres on October 10, as planned.

Suriya appears in a double role as Kanguva, the leader of a tribal community, and a modern-day man, in Siva’s film. Bobby Deol plays the lead antagonist in the film, which stars Disha Patani as the female lead. Kovai Sarala, Jisshu Sengupta, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Natarajan Subramaniam, Anand Raj, Ravi Raghavendra, KS Ravikumar, Deepa Venkat, and others play the supporting roles. Devi Sri Prasad composed the music score. Vetri Palanisamy is the director of photography. Kanguva is jointly produced by Studio Green and UV Creations.
