Kanguva revolves around a warrior prince who lived in the 1000s, and Francis, a bounty hunter based out in Goa. Both played by Suriya, the film intercuts between the two time periods, as both Kanguva and Francis get connected to a young boy and soon becomes his protector. However, what links between the two time periods, and the ultimate face-off is what the sequel is expected to focus on.

Kanguva is the warrior prince of Perumatchi, the one among the archipelago of Indian subcontinent and consists of five islands. After the Romanian warriors come to invade Perumatchi, and convinces one of the islanders to turn into a betrayer to kill the population and half it, Kanguva finishes him off, leaving his son Koduva as an orphan. While his mother trusts Kanguva to take care of Koduva before she self-immolates into her husband’s pyre, Koduva carries the grudge of his father. Meanwhile Perumatchi also goes against its neighbouring island Arathi, which is headed by Udhiran (Bobby Deol) who is finished off by Kanguva in the climax. Cut to the present, we see Francis meeting a young boy Zeta who has escaped a brain cell experiment. Francis and Zeta form an unexplainable bond, making the bounty hunter go miles to save the young boy. Zeta, who seems to remember his Koduva days, seems to get closer to Francis and remind him of their days together.

In the climax, as Kanguva finishes off Udhiran, with Koduva sacrificing his life to do so, we see Udhiran’s illegitimate son take over the throne. It is none other than Karthi himself. With an equally unruly and shabby appearance, Karthi’s Rathaangasan vows to take on Kanguva, to claim his throne. On the other hand, we see Rathaangasan has reincarnated as Commander of the brain study who has been hunting Zeta, the reincarnation of Koduva. While in the 1000s, it is Rathaangasan Vs Kanguva, 2024 will see the clash between Francis and Commander.
