Kanguva is a period action drama that spans across years. Suriya appears in dual roles, as bounty hunter Francis, and warrior prince Kanguva. The film revolves around the warrior prince who safeguards his island from a neighbouring nemesis king and invaders, as there seems to be a connection to the present-day Francis who gets attached to a young boy.

Kanguva opened to negative reviews mostly, upon its release. OTTplay review of Kanguva reads, “Suriya lives and breathes Kanguva and is his earnest best, but that’s not going to be enough to salvage the film that’s crumbling at all other ends.”
