Kangana Ranaut has refuted rumours of her upcoming movie Thalaivi releasing directly on OTT platforms.
The actress clarified that though two streaming giants - Netflix India and Amazon Prime Video - own rights to the film, they cannot stream the movie before its theatrical release.
In her Instagram post, Ranaut asked her fans to ignore the "fake propaganda movie mafia", while assuring them that the film will release in theatres because everybody associated with Thalaivi is keen for a theatrical release.
“Thalaivi deserves a theatrical release and makers are determined, strict action will be taken against any 'bikau' media spreading fake propaganda,” a part of her statement read.
Here's her announcement:
The filmmakers of Thalaivi recently issued a statement confirming that the film has been postponed from its initial April 24 release, due to the rising COVID-19 cases.
"As a team, we have sacrificed a lot in making this film and thank every member of the cast and crew who supported us in this challenging but remarkable journey. Since the film has been made in multiple languages, we would like to release it in all languages on the same day," the makers' statement read.
Ranaut plays the role of former actor and Tamil Nadu ex-Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The Bollywood actor had recently shared a video from the sets of Thalaivi that featured Arvind Swamy, who plays the role of Jayalalithaa's mentor MG Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR.
Before Ranaut, Telugu actress Ramya Krishnan was seen in a role inspired by Jayalalithaa in the MX Player Original web show Queen. The makers of the show stressed that it was inspired from Anita Sivakumaran’s novel The Queen.
Nithya Menen had also been finalised to play the role of Jayalalithaa in The Iron Lady.
