Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan attended Thursday's grand audio release event of the upcoming movie Maamannan, which stars Udhayanidhi Stalin, Keerthy Suresh, Fahadh Faasil, and Vadivelu in the lead roles. Besides Kamal, the event saw the who's who of the Tamil film industry participate in the event which was also marked by a live performance by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman.
Kamal heaped praises on director Mari Selvaraj and the cast for giving a powerful movie. In an unexpected revelation, Kamal Haasan shared that he had already watched the film and found it deeply resonating.
"In events like this, we wouldn't have seen the movies but we usually wish that they should do well. I have seen this film. More important than wishing it a success, it's my desire to see it succeed. I am not just saying it because of my friendships (with the filmmakers). The voice in this film must be heard. The voice in this film doesn't just belong to Mari but to millions of people," Kamal Haasan said.
"I'm a little sad that you would be doing my film. But, it's okay, this is also my film. As I'm concerned, this is also my politics," Kamal said, while appreciating Udhayanidhi Stalin's performance in the movie. Udhayanidhi Stalin was supposed to do a movie under Kamal's home banner. However, he retired from acting after he became a minister. Udhayanidhi Stalin will now focus only on his political duties.
"Ilaiyaraaja and I have been his ardent fans from the very beginning. When it came to Thevar Magan, there were numerous sceptics questioning his ability to excel in that role. Yet, he defied all doubts and proved them wrong. Particularly in the climax, he supported and elevated my performance to new heights. Such a voice was needed for Maamannan and I'm glad he's part of it," Kamal said, while praising Vadivelu's performance in Maamannan.
It's said that the whole movie revolves around the character of Vadivelu and he's said to be playing the titular role.
Mari Selvaraj has emerged as one of the most influential voices in the Tamil film industry in recent times. His debut movie Pariyerum Perumal was a critical and commercial hit. He followed that with Karnan, starring Dhanush in the lead. Despite releasing during the pandemic, the movie became a massive hit. And it's said that Mari has become more in its vision and politics with Maamannan.
