Kamal Haasan oversees Thug Life pre-production work in USA

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan returned to India on Monday after overseeing the pre-production work for his highly-anticipated movie, Thug Life in the United States.

Directed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life commenced filming earlier this year. The film marks the reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after more than 36 years. The iconic duo, celebrated for their classic collaboration in Nayakan (1987), is embarking on an epic adventure set against the backdrop of a dystopian world.

The impact of Thug Life teaser

Thug Life captured the audience's imagination with a teaser unveiling its title, visual style, and Kamal Haasan's character look. Based on the teaser, Mani Ratnam appears to challenge the conventional expectations associated with his films, embracing the profound impact of slow-motion shots and highly stylized action sequences to appeal to a broader mainstream audience.

In the teaser, Kamal introduces himself as Rangarayar Sakthivel Naiker before launching a violent attack on his mysteriously dressed enemies, set against the vast desolate plain. The teaser promises a fresh cinematic take on the themes of a dystopian world, with Kamal portraying a legendary outlaw.

Produced by Kamal Haasan in collaboration with Ratnam's Madras Talkies and Red Giant Movies, Thug Life is likely to be a visual extravaganza with a focus on high-octane action sequences. Besides Kamal Haasan, the movie features other prominent stars, including Dulquer Salmaan, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha.

Mani Ratnam has also put together a solid technical team for Thug Life, comprising Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, cinematographer Ravi K Chandran, editor Sreekar Prasad, and stunt choreographer duo Anbariv.

Kamal Haasan's upcoming movies

Meanwhile, Kamal is also waiting for the release of his upcoming movie Indian 2 this year. Written and directed by Shankar, the film is in the post-production stage and is fast nearing completion. It's a sequal to the 1996 blockbuster Indian, where Kamal will reprise his iconic role as Senapathy, also known as Indian Thatha.

Indian 2 also boasts of an ensemble cast that includes S. J. Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Kalidas Jayaram, Samuthirakani and Bobby Simha among others. The filmmakers are expected to announce the release date soon.
