*Mild spoilers ahead*
For the uninitiated, Dulquer Salmaan made a special appearance in Kalki 2898 AD as the foster father of Bhairava, the protagonist. The unnamed man, who is called Captian by everyone around him, adopts Bhairava as an infant after he is at a war place, all alone. The Captain trains our leading man to be a perfect fighter and bounty hunter and plays a great role in developing a deep fascination for Supreme Yaskin’s Complex, in his mind. However, the duo part ways after a betrayal, and Captain’s fate remains unknown.
After parallels between Prabhas’ character Bhairava and Karna (the legendary warrior of Mahabharat) are established in the climax, the netizens are busy coming up with fascinating theories about his foster father, Captain. Now, many few film fanatics feel that Dulquer Salmaan’s role in the Nag Ashwin directorial was not just a cameo, but is a recurring character that might return in the upcoming installments. The social media post of Vyjayanti Movies, which reads: “Presenting our very own @dqsalmaan as CAPTAIN in the KALKI Cinematic Universe,” confirms the same.
Now, the fans believe that much like Bhairava, who is believed to be a reincarnation of Karna, Dulquer Salmaan’s Captain could be related to an epic character. Some of them point out that he might be the legendary warrior sage, Immortal Parasurama, who is considered the sixth avatar aka incarnation of Lord Vishnu. They point out that that could be the reason why he took Bhairava under his wings and mentored him until he proved his abilities. Meanwhile, some others believe that Dulquer Salmaan’s character is based on Adhiratha, the charioteer who brought up Karna after he was abandoned by his birth mother, Kunti.
