The most-awaited Kalki 2898 trailer has finally been released. The glimpses of Nag Ashwin’s ambitious film suggest that the audiences are set to witness a never-seen-before visual spectacle. The Kalki 2898 AD trailer introduces viewers to the most intriguing characters which have been kept under wraps for the longest time. Prabhas appears as Bhairava, while Deepika Padukone plays the mother-to-be, who carries the ‘chosen one’ in her womb. Now, let’s have a detailed look at the characters of Nag Ashwin’s dystopian world, introduced by the highly promising Kalki 2898 AD trailer.

Prabhas as Bhairava

The Telugu superstar’s character Bhairava (notably, named after Lord Shiva’s incarnation) seems to be a very powerful man. Some dialogues suggest that he is unapologetically selfish. Even though the dystopian community of Kaashi looks so unique and promising, Prabhas’ character comes across as a mere extension of those from many of his previous films. However, Bhairava, who seems to be aimless, might have a change of heart eventually and turn into the ultimate protector of the unborn Kalki.

Deepika Padukone as The Mother

The Wikipedia page of Kalki 2898 AD suggests that Deepika Padukone is playing a character named Sumati aka SUM-80. However, the trailer never reveals her name and introduces her as the divine mother who carries the ‘avatar’ (supposedly Kalki, the 10th incarnation of Lord Vishnu) as per the prophecy. It is refreshing to see one of Bollywood’s biggest superstars shedding her glamorous avatar for an author-backed role in her Telugu cinema debut.

Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama

Ashwatthama, the epic Mahabharata character who is immortal, is on a mission to save the unborn Kalki from the dark powers. The legendary warrior, who hides his divine ‘Mani’ (the precious yellow stone on his forehead) from the world, finally reveals himself to protect the mother and the unborn ‘chosen one’. The performance of legend Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama in the Kalki 2898 AD trailer is an absolute treat to watch and raises expectations on the project.

Kamal Haasan as the mysterious old man

If the reports are to be believed, Kamal Haasan is set to appear as Kali, in the Nag Ashwin directorial. The veteran actor is an absolute revelation in his unrecognizable look as the main antagonist who has a unique mark on his forehead, in the Kalki 2898 AD trailer. Even though the nature and motives of the character remain a mystery, it is safe to assume that Kamal Haasan appears as the most powerful person in Nag Ashwin's dystopian world.

The supporting cast

Disha Patani, the Bollywood actress makes a blink-and-miss appearance as Bhairava’s mandatory love interest. Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee plays Manas, the commander of the ‘Supreme’ power. Veteran actress Shobana makes a special appearance in the Kalki 2898 Ad trailer, which hints that she plays a powerful character in the film. Pasupathy, Brahmanandam, Rajendra Prasad, Anna Ben, and a talented child artist are also seen making prominent appearances in the trailer.
