Nag Ashwin's sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD has blockbuster written all over it. The film, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, was released in cinemas on June 27, 2024. After 11 days of its theatrical run, Kalki 2898 AD surpassed the Rs 900-crore (gross) mark at the worldwide box office. While audiences have lauded Nag Ashwin's work, some people even found the film's first half to be 'slow'. In an interview with Hindustan Times, the director reacted to this feedback.

Nag Ashwin opened up about the feedback that people have about Kalki 2898 AD's first half. The filmmaker told HT, "It has been a universal response that people found the first half slow, and it’s very valid. In a three-hour film, if viewers liked two hours and 54 minutes, I will take that."

He further reacted to the massive box office success of his film Kalki 2898 AD. The director added that a movie like this is beyond everyone. "The ambition was bigger in the sense, there was a larger thing at stake than just us. Many makers were waiting for the result of this sci-fi film. If it didn’t work, it would have closed doors for more years," stated Nag Ashwin.

The filmmaker further told the publication that since Kalki 2898 AD production began during the pandemic, it was difficult to get the finances in place for the film. However, the sci-fi epic had big stars in it, so the makers were a bit relieved. "Plus the previous films we (the producers) have done together, worked, so there was goodwill on that front," added Nag.
