Kalki 2898 AD, the Nag Ashwin directorial which hit the theatres on June 27, 2024, has emerged as a major commercial success. The Prabhas starrer, which features Deepika Padukone as the female lead, has now crossed the Rs. 900 crore mark at the worldwide box office. When it comes to the Kerala box office collection, the multi-starrer has now entered the Rs. 25 crore club. Interestingly, Kalki 2898 AD has now beaten SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster film RRR, with its Kerala collections.
As per the recent updates from the trade experts, Kalki 2898 AD has been performing exceptionally well at the Kerala box office. The great reviews and word-of-mouth publicity have contributed to a major increase in audience rush. The Nag Ashwin directorial which registered an excellent Sunday at the theatres yesterday (June 7, 2024), has entered the Rs. 25 crore club of Kerala box office, in just 10 days. Thus, the movie has surpassed the lifetime collection of RRR, the Ram Charan-Jr NTR starrer directed by SS Rajamouli, in the state.
The trade experts suggest that Kalki 2898 AD has emerged as the second all-time highest-grossing Telugu film in Kerala, beating SS Rajamouli’s RRR. The Ram Charan-Jr NTR film had made a total collection of over Rs. 24.7 crore, within its lifetime run at the Kerala releasing centers. The Prabhas-Deepika Padukone starrer, however, has already crossed the Rs. 25 crore mark in the state. The first spot, as you may know, is still held by Prabhas and SS Rajamouli’s iconic film, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.
The excellent audience rush and the extended theatrical run till the end of August 2024 are expected to favour Kalki 2898 AD big time, at both the Kerala and worldwide box office. However, it is yet to be seen if the movie will manage to break the record set by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, in the state. SS Rajamouli’s film remains the all-time highest-grossing Telugu film in Kerala, collecting over Rs. 73 crore within its lifetime run.
