In May, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of Tanuja Chandra's psychological thriller Dushman, Kajol ranked it among the scariest films she had ever been in. But that will soon change, because rumours have it that she has committed to starring in an even scarier horror flick next year. According to unique information obtained, Kajol has signed on for her first "horror film" in her 30-year career.
Kajol ventures into uncharted territory with first horror film
As per reports in Peeping Moon, Ajay Devgn will produce the film under his banner, Ajay Devgn FFilms, and Vishal Furia, who directed Chhorii, starring Nushrat Bharuccha, will serve as the film's director. The film's tentative title is Maa. Talking about the report, a source close to the production told the entertainment portal that Kajol has proven herself to be an adaptable performer by appearing in films spanning many genres, including romantic comedies, family dramas, thrillers, and slice-of-life. But horror is a subgenre she has never dabbled in before and is eager to do so. When Furia approached her, she eagerly accepted his captivating story set in a peculiar environment. This is a whole new world for the actor, and she is really thrilled to be starting this exciting adventure.

The film's plot details remain a mystery, while the title implies that it centres on parenting, and it will begin principal photography in Kolkata in January after finishing pre-production. But whether the film will debut on an OTT platform or in theatres is still up in the air.
Kajol's diverse film slate for 2024
Maa is only the latest in a string of films that Kajol has been starring in that aim to test her acting chops. It's great news, and it adds to her already impressive programme for 2024. In addition to her role as a police officer in the enthralling mystery thriller Do Patti (Netflix, co-starring Kriti Sanon), she will act in Dharma Productions' Sarzameen (starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Saif Ali Khan's debutant son Ibrahim Ali Khan) next year.
