Kajal Aggarwal, who has scripted a fabulous comeback with the Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer Bhagavanth Kesari, has just wrapped up the shoot of another biggie Indian 2, the sequel to Kamal Haasan-Shankar’s iconic 90s film recently. Meanwhile, she is enthusiastic about shooting for her first-ever cop saga Satyabhama, directed by Suman Chikkala with story, screenplay by Sashi Kiran Tikka.
Suman Chikkala had previously assisted Sashi with their bilingual hit Major. Sashi reportedly narrated the script to Kajal at 10 pm in the night, and he was asked to be brief. The actress was so engrossed that she wanted to listen to the entire script at one stretch the same night, despite a morning shoot next day. She was supposedly bowled over by his precision in the writing.
“I truly come on board because of Sashi, he’s too good and meticulous with his detailing,” Kajal shares. She admits it took quite long for her to do a full-fledged action film, but is thankful that Satyabhama could fill that void. “I absolutely enjoyed doing the action sequences.” While the actress essays the titular character, she is paired opposite Naveen Chandra, who plays her husband in the film.
“Naveen Chandra has this ability to step into the shoes of the character effortlessly. This is my second film with after Mosagallu and I still can’t forget his portrayal of a drug addict. As a writer Amar, he transforms into a supportive husband for Satyabhama. He’s the backbone in her life, pushes her to do well in her professional and helps with her problems,” she adds.
The cop in Satyabhama is not superhuman or merely serious, she comes with her own set of vulnerabilities and that makes her more interesting, Kajal reveals. The film has an investigation element in it, but is all about how she strikes a balance between her personal and professional life. Given she has a long schedule in Hyderabad, Kajal is accompanied by her 18-month old son Neil. “I can’t function without him now.”
She doesn’t view marriage or parenthood as a new dimension to her life but is nevertheless enjoying it. Like her counterparts, does Kajal have plans to enter film production soon? “Acting and motherhood takes up all my time and I don’t think I’ve time for film production.” On the work front, she has signed two other projects beyond Satyabhama, Indian 2. Expect an official announcement shortly.
