Kadakan director Sajil Mampad says it was a ‘now or never’ situation for him during the pre-production phase| Exclusive

The director of the upcoming Malayalam movie Kadakan, Sajil Mampad, stated in a conversation with OTTplay that he felt it was either a now or never moment for him. He continued by saying that another popular actor was supposed to play the movie's lead role, but he pulled out of the project because of other commitments.

We had a difficult time because we had to wait nearly two years for confirmation of the actor's dates. The producer told me that we had to decide whether to proceed forward with the film right away with another artiste or give up the project.

The debutant director also gave an explanation for why the movie's theatrical release was delayed. “There are still a few tasks that need to be finished. Additionally, the movie has good content, and we don't want it to lose out to other eagerly awaited films," he added.

According to Sajil, the movie, which takes place in the Malappuram district's Nilambur and Mampad regions, prioritises both action scenes and poignant elements. "Kadakan focuses on the lives of the locals who live in a village there. In order to appeal to the audience, it also subtly draws inspiration from actual events, along with the right amount of commercial elements, he said.

Hakkim Shajahan's performance in this movie was also commended by the director. Delivering humour and an action sequence that leaves an impression, he said, is not a simple task. He continued, "I am really pleased with Hakkim's efforts on this project because he adds enough mass to Kadakan."

When asked what element of the movie would appeal to the audience, Sajil stated that he had made an effort to include a novel element that the audience would undoubtedly find enjoyable. The director also mentioned how eager he was to hear what people thought of the movie.

Originally scheduled to open in theatres on February 23, the action drama will be released on March 1. Wayfarer Films, Dulquer Salmaan's production company, recently announced that it would be bringing the movie to theatres all over the state. The film's screenplay was written by Sasi Kumar Mampad and Bodhi. Khaleel has produced this film.
