Kaazhcha turns 20: Where to watch Mammootty and Blessy’s iconic family drama

Kaazhcha, the 2004-released iconic film, marked the directorial debut of Blessy, the senior filmmaker who is best known for his works in Malayalam cinema. Mammootty played the lead role in the family drama, which featured Padmapriya Janakiraman as the female lead in her Malayalam acting debut. Kaazhcha broke millions of hearts with the story of Madhavan, a village man who develops a parental bond with a little Gujarati boy. Kaazhcha completed 20 years of its release on August 27, 2024.

Mammootty, Blessy’s Kaazhcha turns 20

Director Blessy, who was an assistant to celebrated directors Padmarajan, AK Lohithadas, and Jayaraj Kozhikode, made his directorial debut with Kaazhcha in 2004. The filmmaker was initially reluctant to pen the film’s script himself and wanted to rope in his mentor Lohithadas or Sreenivasan, for the same. However, leading man Mammootty, who was impressed with Blessy’s story narration, motivated the filmmaker to pen the script, himself. As expected, Kaazhcha earned immense love from both the audience and critics.

Blessy, who is celebrating the 20th year of his career as a filmmaker, took to his official social media handles and penned a heartfelt note. The filmmaker reminisced his 20-year-long journey in cinema, and almost the equal amount of time he spent preparing for the same. In his post, the Aadujeevitham director also thanked God and the audience who stood with him in his 8-films-long journey, for all the support and love.
