Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal hit theatres yesterday, after impressing fans with its songs and promos. Starring Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha and Nayanthara, the movie has had a good opening on a working day.

The movie, which is one of the biggest solo releases of Vijay Sethupathi, has reportedly minted close to Rs. 7 crores in Tamil Nadu, and the worldwide number is said to be around 13 crores. The movie ran housefull in many of the locations and also has early morning shows.

According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the movie ended yesterday at the top position in the state as the winner, beating a 10 day streak held by Yash’s pan-Indian blockbuster, KGF: Chapter 2. Both the movies also have impressive advance bookings in place and are expected to have a solid weekend.

Directed by Vignesh Shivan, the movie is backed by Lalit Kumar under Seven Screen Studio in association with Rowdy Pictures. The romantic comedy has received mixed reactions from critics following its release.

“The film works in parts when Rambo (Vijay Sethupathi) and Kanmani (Nayanthara) are hanging out together. Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal is a pretentious romcom. And, it is impossible to figure out why they are into each other or whether they are into each other at all. The misplaced priorities in the screenplay are entirely to blame.”, read the movie’s review on OTTplay.

Also featuring Prabhu, Seema, Redin Kingsley and former cricketer S. Sreesanth, the movie has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The songs from the movie were a hit among the fans even before the movie’s release.

Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kadhal. Which has also been released in Telugu, is available in theatres around the country.
