Mammootty and Jyotika’s progressive social drama Kaathal - The Core has been receiving overwhelming responses from the audience and critics alike. Directed by Jeo Baby, the movie hit the cinemas on November 23, and has been seeing a consistent growth in its box office collections. Viewers have particularly lauded Mammootty’s performance and the film’s screenplay, written by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria. Five days after its release, the movie continues to receive positive reviews.
Mammootty-Jyotika’s Kaathal has received rave reviews globally
Kaathal earned ₹1 crore at the box office on its opening day. On Day 5, the movie minted ₹6.25 crore. The film witnessed a 13.89% occupancy during the morning shows on Monday. It also gained traction through the afternoon, indicating a 15% occupancy, while the evening shows reached around 21% and the night shows had 25.10% occupancy.
According to the film’s distributor, Wayfarer Films, the number of screens increased significantly after it received a positive response on Day 1. The Dulquer Salmaan-owned production house took to social media handle and wrote, “More Screens, More Shows On Day 2 In Kerala for #KaathalTheCore from 150 Screens to 175 Screens Here is Our Updated Theatre List !! Thanks to our Audience.” It is interesting to note that despite the film getting banned in Gulf nations for its homosexual content, the Mammootty starrer continues to soar high.
Mammootty turned down a massive OTT deal for Kaathal
According to Friday Matinee, a popular OTT platform had a strong interest in bagging the digital rights of Kaathal - The Core. The team had approached actor-producer Mammootty with a whopping offer. Despite the discussion progressing to negotiation stages, the leading actor ultimately opted against a direct-to-OTT release.
Reports also indicate that the megastar declined the offer, because he was determined to release the film in the theatres first. Mammootty had a lot of faith in the film’s content, and was confident that it would be accepted by Malayalam cinema audiences. The positive reviews from both viewers and critics, along with the film’s successful box office performance, determine that the legendary actor’s decision was indeed right.
