There’s been several rumours floating since the beginning of the year about Ranveer Singh’s superhero film on Shaktimaan with Minnal Murali director Basil Joseph attached to helm it. While the grapevine had it that the budget of the film had exceeded what the producers initially had in mind, forcing them to shelve plans, the movie’s producers had dismissed these reports and stated that the project is very much on.
Now, the latest development, we hear, is that the Malayalam filmmaker has roped in the services of scriptwriter Paulson Skaria, who had co-written last year’s commercial hit RDX: Robert Doney Xaviour as well as the critically-acclaimed Mammootty and Jyothika-starrer Kaathal: The Core, along with Adarsh Sukumaran.

Paulson had confirmed that he was working on “a big budget Bollywood project” that will be helmed by Basil in a recent report in TOI. Paulson and Adarsh made their screenwriting debut last year with Neymar that starred Premalu duo Naslen K Gafoor and Mathew Thomas. It’s not yet officially confirmed if Paulson’s script is for Basil’s Shaktimaan film or a totally different Bollywood project.
Incidentally, Paulson is also co-scripting another project with Justin Mathew, who had co-written Minnal Murali with Basil. The upcoming project, which will be a Malayalam movie, is a slice-of-life social comedy that will be backed by Bollywood filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwary and Sangeetha Janachandran.
Meanwhile, Basil Joseph has remained tight-lipped about the project – neither denying nor confirming that a film is on. However, the actor-filmmaker has had several discussions in Mumbai for his Bollywood debut and an announcement is expected soon after he has completed his acting commitments in Malayalam.
Amid the discussions about the project, actor Mukesh Khanna, who played Shaktimaan in the popular serial, took to his Instagram recently to express his dismay at Ranveer playing the iconic character. “It doesn’t matter how big a star he is, but someone with his image cannot become Shaktimaan,” said the actor, explaining that he is against casting the Don 3 star.
The veteran actor then deleted the post, and shared a video, saying that “casting is not yet done”. He took down the video later.
