Director Kannan had surprised one and all when he announced last year that he will be remaking Kaasethaan Kadavulada which was released in 1972. Chitralaya Gopu had directed the four decade-old movie which starred Muthuraman and Lakshmi in lead roles. Kannan had informed that Shiva and Priya Anand will play lead roles in the remake version.
Though the movie, which was wrapped up long ago, was supposed to hit the screens last year, it got postponed owing to reasons best known to the team. Instead, Thalli Pogathey, which he made with Atharvaa and Anupama Parameswaran in lead roles, was released towards the end of last year after multiple postponements.
Kaasethaan Kadavulada has Urvashi, Manobala, Karunakaran, Yogi Babu, Pugazh and Sivaangi, too, essaying notable characters in it. The movie brings back Shiva and Priya as lead actors after almost a decade's hiatus. The duo was last seen as a pair in Vanakkam Chennai which went on to become a success when released in 2013.
The remake version of Kaasethaan Kadavulada has Prasanna S Kumar cranking the camera and Raj Pratap composing music. Nadan Surya is in charge of editing while Rajkumar is at the helm of art direction. Sathish and Pappy have jointly choreographed dance sequences, and Stunt Silva has composed action scenes.
The post-theatrical digital rights of Kaasethaan Kadavulada have been bagged by Sun NXT, while its satellite rights have been acquired by Sun TV.
Kannan himself has produced the project, which according to a few sources, is likely to release in October. The filmmaker has another remake in his kitty. He has helmed the remake of acclaimed Malayalam movie The Great Indian Kitchen under the same title.
