Director Shaji Kailas and Prithviraj Sukumaran will be hoping to continue their success run after Kaduva, with their upcoming gangster drama titled Kaapa. The movie, which is scripted by GR Indugopan, has some of the best talents in the industry right now and the team will be hoping to the end the year on a high with its theatrical release.

The film, which is based on Indugopan’s novel Shankumukhi, revolves around the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act and Prithviraj playing a goon-turned-gangster named Kotta Madhu. Set in Thiruvananthapuram, the movie also has Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali and Anna Ben as part of it cast and is part of the FEFKA Writer’s Union initiative.

Prithviraj will be seen playing two phases of his character’s life in the movie, which essentially marks his third collaboration with Shaji Kailas since the pandemic. The duo’s Kaduva, which released earlier this year, was a superhit. The two had also teamed up in Mohanlal’s Alone, where Prithviraj had lent his voice for a character in the pandemic thriller.

Kaapa is currently scheduled to hit theatres on December 22, a day ahead of the other three Christmas releases in Malayalam this year – Biju Menon’s Nalaam Mura, Antony Varghese’s Oh Meri Laila and Sharafudheen’s Aanandam Paramaanandam.

The latest trailer of Kaapa promised a violent gangster drama that boasts of some intense performances from its stellar cast. Incidentally, Kaapa was set to be helmed by Carbon and Munariyippu filmmaker Venu, before he dropped out citing creative differences with the team. Shaji Kailas came on board to replace the director. Similarly, Manju Warrier also opted out due to scheduling conflicts with her Tamil movie Thunivu, starring Ajith. Aparna Balamurali, who won the National Award for Best Actress this year, replaced the lady superstar in the film.

Kaapa also has Dileesh Pothan, Nandu, Maniyanpilla Raju, Jagadeesh and Baiju Santosh in pivotal roles.
