Prithviraj Sukumaran’s final release of 2022, Kaapa, is all set for its OTT release. The gangster drama, which is helmed by Shaji Kailas, is based on GR Indugopan’s novel Shankhumukhi and has an ensemble cast featuring Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali, Anna Ben, Dileesh Pothan and Jagadeesh in pivotal roles.

The movie’s OTT rights were bagged by Netflix before its theatrical release in December. The movie, which is co-produced by Saregama, was also aimed at raising funds for FEFKA Writer’s Union. Kaapa, which is reportedly inspired by true incidents, revolves around the gang wars in Thiruvananthapuram and the rise and fall of a gangster named Kotta Madhu. How his life crosses paths with that of an IT engineer and his wife, and who then become crucial pieces in the battle between two rival gangs form the plot of the film, which is also scripted by Indugopan.

Prithviraj essays Kotta Madhu in the film, which has Aparna Balamurali playing the role of his wife. Asif Ali plays an IT employee who gets a transfer to Thiruvananthapuram while Anna Ben portrays the role of his pregnant wife, whose name is mistakenly added to the Goonda list aka Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act list. The movie also has Nandu in a pivotal role.

Kaapa is set to release on Netflix on January 19. The platform has already announced the release date of the gangster drama. Prithviraj had returned Rs 25 lakh from his salary to the FEFKA Writers Union fund to express solidarity with the purpose of making the film.
