A few days ago, the OTT major Netflix dropped the much-awaited trailer of ‘Kaala Paani’, which was captioned as ‘Dive into the world of Kaala Paani, where the only way to survive is to improvise, adapt and overcome!’. Many of those who saw the trailer were in total shock to see the trailer. The trailer showed the outbreak of a mysterious disease in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which became the reason for many deaths in quick succession. Even though many liked the way the hard-hitting trailer was presented, there were others who were wondering about the actual meaning and reason behind the title ‘Kaala Paani’.

Today, let us tell you the reason and the meaning behind the title ‘Kaala Paani’. The term ‘Kaala Paani’ refers to a cellular jail in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The term ‘Kaala Paani’ means black water. This jail was prevalent during the British colonial era. History has it that, the said prison ‘Kaala Paani’ was used by the Indian colonial government when it was about exiling the criminals as well as the prisoners. History also has it that the said place was called ‘Kaala Paani’ because it was next to impossible for the jailed inmates to escape from that dreaded area.
A film by the same name
For the unversed, a few years ago, a full-fledged film titled ‘Saza-E-Kala Pani’ was made and released. Even though the film was originally made in Malayalam language, it had got dubbed in Hindi as well. The film boasted of an extremely powerful star cast that had stellar actors in it. These actors included Mohanlal, Prabhu, Tabu, the late Amrish Puri, Vineeth, Alex Draper, John Kolvenbach, Annu Kapoor, Sankaradi , Nedumudi Venu, Delhi Ganesh and others.
