Written and directed by V. K. Prakash, Kaagaz 2, which was released earlier this year, has added one more OTT platform to its streaming. After Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar, the film has started streaming on JioCinema (OTTplay Premium). It is the spiritual successor to the 2021 film Kaagaz and has prominent performances by Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Kiran Kumar, Smriti Kalra, Anang Desai, and the late Satish Kaushik. Venus Worldwide Entertainment and Satish Kaushik Entertainment produce it. Kaagaz 2 is an adaptation of the 2015 Malayalam film Nirnayakam by Prakash.
Two families are at the center of the story. Uday, played by Darshan Kumar, harbors remorse for not joining the Indian Army due to his father's abandonment of him and his mother during his childhood. In contrast, a catastrophic event occurs during a political rally in the life of a father and his daughter, who happens to be the UPSC top performer. The film explores a protracted struggle against the government and powerful individuals. Will the dad be victorious in the end? After being apart for so long, does Uday ever make amends with his dad? Does Uday become an army officer, as he always wanted to be?
Article 15 of the Indian Constitution guarantees the right to exist and forbids prejudice based on a person's religion, race, caste, gender, or place of birth.
Kaagaz 2 premiered on March 1, 2024, and critics were mostly complimentary. This marks the first film honoring Satish Kaushik following his demise on March 9, 2023.
Producer Ratan Jain of Venus Films earlier said in a statement that his association with Satish Kaushik goes way back... They worked together on multiple productions, and the late actor even directed a film for Jain's production house. A sentimental attachment to Kaagaz 2 exists for him, and his good friend Satish Kaushik would be proud of it.
He reiterated that the film's distinctive selling point is its message of not obstructing others' roads to pave their own. Jain added that political rallies and protests frequently inconvenience common people due to the traffic jams they cause.
