Actress June Malia started her second innings in politics a few years back. Now she has entered the sports administration also. The MLA from Midnapore is now a part of the CAB administration. CAB had its annual GB last Monday. There June Malia represented the Midnapore District Sports Authority.
The CAB committee was previously announced, and it took official charge on Monday. This was the 91st annual GB. Snehasish Ganguly serves as the new president. His brother, the ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, was also present. The new Apex council was formed. Next year will see the 50-over Cricket World Cup in India, and a number of matches will be played in Eden Gardens. So the discussion was around the reformation of the Club House in Eden, installing floodlights in the Salt Lake campus of Jadavpur University, etc.
June told Anandabazar Online, “I am elected to the CAB body as the representative of the DM of West Midnapore. Cricket administration is not new to me. I am from Kolkata and hence am well aware of what is going on in Cricket here. I also know Dada (Sourav), Snehasish, and some other club officials. Today I got introduced to the others.”
She also added, “I came to the administration to do good work. My priority is to develop the district I represent. I wish to pick talented female cricketers from the Jungle Mahal. Though a lot of them are interested in sports, they do not have many opportunities. I want to make those opportunities for them.”
