Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan recently made his acting debut with Maharaj. Siddharth P Malhotra's directorial was received well by the viewers. The film is based on the 2013 book which was penned by Gujarati writer Saurabh Shah. The book took on the 1862 case filed by Jadunathji (a leading Vaishnavite figure). He had petitioned against social reformer Karsandas Mulji. The latter was against sexual exploitation by the all-powerful Maharaj. In a new interview, Junaid was asked about nepotism and whether star kids receive special treatment.
Speaking to NDTV, Junaid Khan reacted to the nepotism topic and said, "I think as actors, we are often testing for a lot of things." He shared that sometimes you get certain parts, and sometimes you do not. Before Maharaj, there were films for which he auditioned but did not get.
He further confessed, "I will also admit ki if I was not Aamir Khan's son, I would probably have not gotten Maharaj. That is also very much a fact.”
Opening about his character Karsandas, he said that the character is interesting because not much is known about him as it is a 150-year-old story.
"What we know comes from his articles and writings. Creating a character based on someone's writing was challenging, but the film's writers, Sneha (Desai) and Vipul (Mehta), really helped me find the essence of a journalist," he said.
The Maharaj Libel Case was an 1862 trial in the Bombay High Court in the Bombay Presidency, British India. The case was filed by Jadunathjee Brajratanjee Maharaj, against Nanabhai Rustomji Ranina and Karsandas Mulji. The case highlighted the conflict between traditional yet controversial social practices such as charanseva and emerging reformist ideas in colonial India, garnering significant public attention and appreciation for Mulji's efforts.
Meawhile, directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, Maharaj also features Sharvari Wagh and Shalini Pandey in key roles.
