Jubilee actor Aparshakti Khurana: I’d like to believe good things happened to me because I was never bitter about things

The ideal vantage point from which to look back and gauge one's progress may be in the spotlight. Aparshakti Khurana would concur. The actor made headlines over the weekend thanks to his internalised performance in Jubilee. Khurana portrays Binod Das, an honest lab assistant who later becomes a movie star, in Vikramaditya Motwane's series, which is set in the Hindi cinema business of the late 1940s and early 1950s.

The actor claims that because he shared Das' roots, he could relate to his story. He told Mid Day that he first worked for a music station as a stylist and stayed there until he was hired as an anchor. A stylist becoming an anchor has never happened before in that office. The actor used to approach styling the show's hosts, who may or may not have had skill, cleaning their shoes, and tying their shoelaces with the same sincerity as when he did anchoring.

Even more, the actor and his character in the Prime Video show, which also stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sidhant Gupta, are very similar. People were just as shocked by Khurana's performance in Jubilee as they were by Das' rise to fame on screen. The actor was formerly well-known for his comedic roles.

He is not trying to surprise anyone. The emotion appears when one has experienced life's bitterness and decides to show everyone what he is capable of. He was appreciative to be working on movies like Stree (2018) and Dangal (2016) with such nice individuals. Khurana was never in the mood to argue his case. He would like to think that since he never harboured grudges, wonderful things came his way. He wants his art to pleasantly surprise people.

One must give Motwane credit for using him in a role that no one would have predicted he would be successful in. Khurana declares that the filmmaker treats everyone equally on set despite working with actors like Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, and Rajkummar Rao. Nobody else does it. Just two directors, Nitesh Tiwari and Motwane, treat everyone on the basis of their merit, from a spot guy to an actor.
