Journey of Love: 18+ is a romantic comedy film directed by Arun D Jose. Starring Naslen K Gafoor, Mathew Thomas, Nikhila Vimal, Meenakshi Dinesh and Binu Papu, the movie focuses on love marriages and political ideologies. Similar to coming-of-age romcoms like Thanneer Mathan Dinangal and Super Sharanya, Journey of Love: 18+ too has its moments of humour. On September 15, the movie will be released on SonyLIV. Here’s why you should watch Journey of Love: 18+ on the OTT platform…
Naslen K Gafoor’s stellar performance
In the movie, Naslen portrays the character of Akhil who is romantically involved with the daughter of a local political party leader. Unlike his previous roles in movies such as Thanneer Mathan Dinangal, Akhil is portrayed as a serious and anxious young man rather than a carefree and jovial character. Naslen’s performance in emotional scenes and as a lover deserves appreciation.

Safvan and Anshid’s hilarious scenes
Safvan and Anshid, who are known for their hilarious content on YouTube, do not disappoint in this comedy film either. Although Naslen and Mathew are known for their comedy, they portray serious characters in this film. On the other hand, it’s Safvan and Anshid who handle comedy here, and they do it very well. Additionally, they have a good grasp over the northern Kerala dialect.
Meenakshi Dinesh impresses as the female lead
Meenakshi and Naslen’s on-screen chemistry is a highlight of the movie. Meenakshi, a new face in Malayalam cinema, handled the scenes that could have otherwise gone overboard very well. Although the love songs in the movie may not seem very special, the lead actors’ performance makes these sequences enjoyable. Meenakshi’s performance stands out as her character has a well-written arc, as compared to the other characters in the movie.
Manoj KU as a casteist political leader
Manoj KU, who’s known for his patriarchal character in the TV show Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam, makes an impression in Journey of Love: 18+. In the film, Manoj plays a local party leader with the attitude of belonging to a ‘dominant caste’, which he portrays quite convincingly on screen. His manipulative attempts to convince his daughter to leave her lover and return to the family are worth a mention.
Rajesh Madhavan as a quirky lawyer
Rajesh Madhavan is known for essaying caricature-like characters. In this film, he takes on the role of a quirky lawyer and delivers a standout performance in his scenes with Nikhila. While some may view Rajesh’s acting as a continuation of his previous work, he truly shines in the second half of the movie when there are fewer comedic moments. Overall, his performance is entertaining and adds to the movie’s overall appeal.
