Joker: Folie à Deux appears to be on track as director Todd Phillips posted a teaser image announcing "day one" of production. "Day 1. Our boy. #joker," Phillips captioned the picture.

The movie's creator posted a picture of Arthur Fleck, played by Joaquin Phoenix. The murderer in Arkham Asylum is lying still while what looks like an orderly at the facility shaves him. Phoenix appears to have regained the wiry build he developed for his role as Fleck in the first 2019 movie.

The Joker sequel will pick up with Phoenix's murderous clown after he's been confined to Arkham Asylum; however, story details are being kept under wraps. Lady Gaga has been cast as a character that is said to be based on the DC Comics villain Harley Quinn. She will be in the movie with Phoenix, who won the Oscar for best actor for his role in the R-rated original. In the production, Brendan Gleeson has also been hired.

After directing the first movie, Phillips is back to helm the Joker: Folie à Deux. Under Phillips' direction, the dark comic book adaptation earned a record-breaking 11 Academy Award nominations, won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and became a huge box office hit, with worldwide ticket sales exceeding $1 billion. The follow-up has been compared to a musical.

On October 9, 2024, precisely five years after the release of the first movie, Joker: Folie à Deux will be released.

The 2019 film is set in 1981 and centres on Arthur Fleck, a failing clown and aspiring stand-up comic who sparks a violent countercultural uprising against the wealthy in a run-down Gotham City as a result of his spiral into mental illness and nihilism.

As a result of his work in the movie, Phoenix received numerous honours, including the Academy Award for Best Actor, the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Actor, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama, and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.
