John Cena is the talk of the town and for multiple reasons. Most recently he made news for Peacemaker Season 2, where he leads as the titular character, in July, the wrestler-turned-actor shocked his fans by announcing his retirement from in-ring competition in December 2025. The WWE superstar made this announcement at the WWE Money In The Bank event, where he took center stage in Toronto with a surprise entry. This came as a shock because no one was expecting it to happen at that moment. As it unfolded, chaos ensued, with everyone eager to know the details about his farewell tour, which will stretch throughout the next year. But wait—retirement does not mean he will leave WWE forever. Cena will remain connected to WWE even after December 2025.
Confused? So were we. According to the latest reports, John Cena is indeed retiring from in-ring wrestling at WWE, but that doesn't mean he won't be involved with the space that gave him all the fame in the first place. He will continue to champion WWE in an ambassadorial capacity, according to a recent Comicbook report. The star wrestler confirmed that he has already signed an extension that keeps him connected with WWE for the foreseeable future. Read on to learn everything you need to know.
"I have such a trustworthy relationship with them. Over two decades. I am a champion of the brand. I love the company. It is my home. They are my family," Cena said on Club Shay Shay. "Even after 2025, I've already signed an extension to remain a member of the WWE family for the near, mid, and long-term future. I don't think there will be a beat of my heart where WWE blood doesn't come out of it."
John Cena has also revealed that WWE is workshopping a schedule that includes 30-40 dates in 2025. These will be a combination of televised appearances, premium live events, and house shows. The extension, however, means that it is likely one of the WWE legends contracts. This essentially allows a retired wrestler to continue being involved in merchandise as well as scheduled guest appearances at fan events and WWE television shows.
John Cena’s Retirement Tour will be spread across the entire year. The star has cleverly dominated the year 2025 because he plans to compete in one last Royal Rumble match, an Elimination Chamber contest, and, without a doubt, his final WWE WrestleMania fight. By the time December 2025 comes, fans will have seen Cena in all the major events of the year. In the midst of all this, Cena will also be working on Peacemaker Season 2 with James Gunn at the DCU.
