Bollywood actor John Abraham recently revealed that his upcoming movie Tehran, which also stars Manushi Chhillar, will have him speaking different languages. The film, which is helmed by ad filmmaker Arun Gopalan, is inspired by true events and will also be shot in Iran.

At a recent press meet in Kochi promoting his debut Malayalam production venture Mike, the actor revealed more about the movie, which is slated to hit theatres in January 2023.

John said that about half the film is in the Iranian language, Farsi. “Besides English, I am speaking Hebrew, Farsi and German in the movie. It’s nice to learn something different,” he said.

John, in an earlier interview, had said that he could be the first Indian actor to shoot in Iran, and that his mother has 21 cousins in the country. The actor’s father is a Malayali by birth. However, he says that he isn’t too comfortable with the language right now.

“I would have to learn the language. I do understand a bit, but not a lot, because my dad never really spoke in Malayalam back home in Mumbai,” he said, adding that he is a big fan of Malayalam actors such as Suraj Venjaramoodu, Joju George, Biju Menon and others.

The actor added that he would love to do a Malayalam movie but doesn’t think he is capable. “I would like to be a part of some Malayalam movie in a small, beautiful way where I could add some value. I am always looking for different ideas and scripts as a producer and the day I find one for myself, I will master the language.”

John’s debut production Mike, which hit theatres on August 19, has Anaswara Rajan and debutant Ranjith Sajeev in the lead and is directed by debutant Vishnu Sivaprasad. The movie revolves around a young girl who decides to have a sex reassignment surgery and how her path crosses that of a dispirited man, who is haunted by the tragedies of his past.
