Even almost two decades after its release, Jism still remains one of the most memorable erotic thrillers of Bollywood. The film, starring John Abraham and Bipasha Basu, marked the former’s Bollywood debut. Pooja Bhatt was a producer on the film and the filmmaker recently opened up about an incident where John made her realise that consent was something equally important for both men and women.
During her appearance on Tinder India’s Swipe Ride, Pooja revealed that she had directed some of the film’s intimate scenes that involved Bipasha and John. The filmmaker had tried to make Bipasha feel as comfortable as possible, directing the actress on what needs to be done and making sure she was comfortable doing it.
Seeing this, John had approached Pooja and said ‘Excuse me! Does somebody mind asking me whether I am comfortable doing this?’. Pooja recalled how shocked she had felt, as if someone threw a bucket of cold water on her. “How presumptuous of us women to think that it is only the women who’s awkward in an intimate situation. The poor guy!”, she said.
Interestingly, Bipasha and John were in a relationship together after having met on the film. The 2003 film was directed by Pooja’s father Mahesh Bhatt and also starred Gulshan Grover, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Sheeba Chaddha, Ayesha Kapur, Harsh Vashisht, Vinay Pathak, Bobby Bedi, Ranvir Shorey and Anahita Uberoi in pivotal roles. Jism is available for streaming on ZEE5.
Pooja was last seen in the Netflix series Bombay Begums, which also marked her web series debut. The actress is expected to reprise her role in the upcoming second season of the show as well. Pooja will also play a pivotal role in R Balki’s upcoming film Chup: Revenge of the Artist. The film also stars Dulquer Salmaan, Sunny Deol, and Shreya Dhanwanthary.
