Jim Sarbh is never one to confine himself when it comes to the roles he takes up. The actor recently opened up about how he felt that the film industry was obsessed with portrayals of strength, and very rarely gave importance to ‘flawed’ characters.
The actor is set to appear on Bumble’s Dating These Nights, where he will converse with Zoya Akhtar, as reported by Mid Day. During his episode, the actor said that the film industry, including producers, writers, directors, and actors, always preferred to include portrayals of strength, and audiences preferred watching the same as well. The actor alluded to how unrealistic such portrayals were, saying that he, like many other individuals, do not feel heroic or victorious all the time.
Sarbh went on to speak of how a good performance of a character who is generally considered ‘weak’ would not garner as much appreciation as a well performed ‘strong’ character. “This industry thrives on blurring the lines between performance and personality—because we are obsessed with deities. We rarely judge performances with honesty”, he said.
The actor added that, many times, strong writing or direction was also confused with strong performances. He also spoke of how some films gave more importance to the hero over the heroine, mirroring the patriarchal nature of society.
In addition to Sarbh and Akhtar, the other stars who are expected to make an appearance on Dating These Nights include Mrunal Thakur, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Vijay Varma and Srishti Dixit.
