Vetri-starrer Jiivi which was released in 2019 was one of the successful Tamil films of the year. Its engaging screenplay and riveting twists and turns complemented by convincing performances from a few actors made it one of the neatly made suspense thrillers of Kollywood.

An announcement on the film's sequel, titled Jiivi 2 by director Gopinath, made movie lovers excited. The project which was kicked off earlier this year was completed in a month's time and finally released directly on aha Tamil on August 19. Though cinephiles were expecting to watch the movie from theatres, makers decided to skip theatrical release owing to lack of reception for small films.

The second installment, too, garnered decent response, though a few opined that it couldn't match the racy screenplay of the first part. Apart from Vetri, Karunakaran, Rohini, Aswini Chandrashekar and Mime Gopi, too, repeated their roles in the second part.

Ram and Y Gee Mahendran among others were also seen essaying significant characters in Jiivi 2. Gopinath had recently said that he never anticipated that he would end up making a sequel to Jiivi. His plan was to join hands with Vishnu Vishal for a film which couldn't happen because of the pandemic.

Now, Gopinath says that he doesn't want to dismiss the idea of making a third part to Jiivi. He opens up, "While penning the script for Jiivi 2, I made sure that I created a few ideas which would help me develop a third instalment. But it is too early to comment on it. If I come across interesting plotlines, audience can expect Jiivi 3."

Gopinath also added that his project with Vishnu Vishal is likely to materialize soon if things go as per plan.
