Jigarthanda DoubleX: Dhanush, Mahesh Babu, Dulquer Salmaan, Rakshit Shetty unite for Karthik Subbaraj movie

Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj has enlisted big names from across the Indian film industry to begin the promotions of his upcoming directorial outing Jigarthanda DoubleX. Actors Dhanush, Mahesh Babu, Dulquer Salmaan and Rakshit Shetty will release the new promo video for the upcoming movie in multiple languages. 

The promo video has been titled #MoreThanATeaser of #JigarthandaDoubleX. It will be unveiled on Monday at 12:12 PM. 

Jigarthanda DoubleX, a Karthik Subbaraj film

Jigarthanda DoubleX will mark Karthik Subbaraj's return to the big screen after a gap of more than four years. His last movie that was released in theatres was Petta, starring Superstar Rajinikanth. The 2019 action drama was released in theatres to packed houses and became of the highest-grossing movie of that year.

The following year the outbreak of the pandemic disrupted the world in unimaginable ways and it affected the projects of Karthik Subbaraj. His much-awaited movie at the time was Jagame Thandhiram, starring Dhanush in the lead role. 

As the pandemic continued to wreak havoc across the world, with no relief in sight, the producer YNOT Studios, decided to take the direct-to-streaming route in 2020. The movie was directly premiered on Netflix during the height of the pandemic. Dhanush, however, openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the producer's choice, making no attempt to conceal his discontent.

Karthik's previous movie was Mahaan, which had Vikram in the lead role. It was also dropped directly on Amazon Prime Video owing to the pandemic.

The much-awaited sequel

Jigarthanda DoubleX is expected to give a much-needed break to Karthik. Even though it's a sequel, it's unlikely to have any connection with its predecessor Jigarthanda. The 2009 movie has a cult following and it was also instrumental in establishing Karthik as a force to reckon with in the film industry. 

Jigarthanda DoubleX stars Raghava Lawrence and S. J. Surya. It's expected to arrive in cinemas during the Deepavali holiday.
