Jhansi, the web show on Disney+ Hotstar, that marked the Telugu digital debut of Anjali, was among the most-watched titles this year on the platform despite receiving mixed responses from critics and audiences. Directed by Samar, Naan Sigappu Manithan fame Thiru, the show also featured Samyukta Hornad, Adarsh Balakrishna, Chandini Chowdary, Aberaam Varma in pivotal roles. The show, which had a cliffhanger ending, will have a second season soon.

The platform, earlier today, announced that the second season of Jhansi will premiere in the month of January, 2023. While all the episodes of Jhansi were filmed at one go, Hotstar opted to split them into two seasons, trusting their strategy that worked for shows like Parampara. Mumaith Khan, Kalyan Master, Raj Arun, Sharanya and Chaitanya Sagiraju were other actors who made a mark in Jhansi. The show was bankrolled by actor-producer Krishna under Tribal Horse Entertainment.

Arvind Kumar has cranked the camera while Lewellyn Gonsalvez was the editor. Yannick Ben, who had worked on The Family Man, was the action choreographer and Sricharan Pakala was the composer of Jhansi. It remains to be seen if Jhansi’s season 2 would better its predecessor. Anjali was also part of Disney+ Hotstar’s Tamil show Fall recently, that opened to largely positive reviews.

The show revolves around Jhansi, a boutique owner who’s staying with her partner and his daughter. Whenever he discusses their marriage plans, she refuses to take a step ahead. She is yet to move on from a tragedy that affected her five years ago. When she saves a girl from a molester at a wedding, Jhansi’s past catches up with her and rekindles several bitter memories from her childhood. The first season ends with Jhansi being kidnapped by a group of henchmen.
