Jersey preview: All you need to know about Shahid Kapoor's upcoming Hindi remake of Nani's Telugu film

Fans have been waiting for the release of Shahid Kapoor's upcoming film for a year now. After Kabir Singh, the actor's next film is also a Hindi remake of a Telugu film. Shahid has stepped into the shoes of Nani for the remake of Jersey which is titled the same in Hindi. The film is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri who has also directed the original Telugu movie. Mrunal Thakur plays the female lead opposite Shahid in the film.

Shahid will be seen playing the role of a sportsman who returns to cricket in his mid-30s. The film is about 'late bloomers' who aspires to be in sports but faces severe complications due to it too. In the film, Shahid's character will be seen having a desire to be a part of the Indian Cricket Team and also wishes to gift a jersey to his son. 

About the Telugu film, a source had told Indian Express that it's a cricket drama that follows the journey of a man from 1986 to 1996. They described the basic plot around the concept of late bloomers. The makers had also told the portal, "Some people pursue their dreams only after a certain age and they still achieve success. They are known as late bloomers. We have plenty of examples and success stories with regards to it in different fields." 

However, in sports, the concept is somewhat difficult to apply as the sports field demands physical fitness. Competing in any sports after a certain age becomes tough. 

Similarly, the makers added, "Jersey is the story of a man who is settled in life with his wife and kid but aspires to be a cricketer. The story also includes the reasons behind his dream and what he has done to achieve it during the process."

Shahid Kapoor had shared several videos on his social media pages wherein he is seen practising vigorously the game of cricket to get into the skin of his character.

Earlier during an Instagram live session, Shahid Kapoor had praised Jersey by saying, "I watched Jersey before Kabir Singh. The time when I saw it, I was unhappy. I used to think about where my career would go, what I will do next. So, I could relate to the story of Jersey, which is about late success. It’s about a man who finds glory at a time when people retire."

The 2019 release went on to become an instant hit at the box office and also won several accolades. The film was honoured with Best Feature Film in Telugu and Best Editing for Naveen Nooli at the National Film Awards which was announced earlier this year. 

Pankaj Kapur is also a part of Jersey, however, he won't be playing the father's role to Shahid. The veteran actor has been roped in to play the coach to Shahid's character in the upcoming film.

In January this year, Shahid Kapoor announced that Jersey is set to be a Diwali release this year and will hit the screens on November 5, 2021.
