Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar revealed an all-girls road trip movie Jee Le Zaraa was envisaged as Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif got in touch with her after Priyanka Chopra had called them. She also said that they were unaware that her brother, director-actor Farhan Akhtar was looking forward to making an all-girls film at the same time. Jee Le Zaraa was announced by Farhan earlier this year with the stellar trio, and co-written by Zoya.
In an interaction with Film Companion, Zoya hailed the trio as ‘massive’ and ‘distinct’ personalities, and that they are entirely different from each other. She said that after Farhan disclosed his intention, she was contacted independently by Alia and Katrina. “It just aligned,” she said. She also added that it would have been the same players even if it were to happen 10 years ago.
Meanwhile, Priyanka had penned a note on Instagram about the film’s origin and what prompted her to call the other two up. On a fine rainy night in November 2019, the actress seemed to be thinking about doing something different, cool and never attempted before. Suddenly the idea of an all-female cast popped into her mind as there are not enough movies in Bollywood having female multi-starrer. This idea made her do an impulsive phone call to her two real friends, and thus, a 'celebration of friendship’, what she calls it, was born. She also posted a picture of the three of them together along with the note.

She had further written about how they met and unanimously chose Farhan, Ritesh, Zoya and Reema Kagti, as they have already worked with them before. It all seemed perfect to her.
The movie is expected to be released by 2023.
