The trend of pan-Indian films, giving stiff competition to Bollywood, has been the talk of the town ever since the success of the films like Allu Arjun's Pushpa: The Rule, Jr NTR-Ram Charan's RRR and Yash's KGF 2 at the box office in the Hindi belt. The south Indian films have been breaking records at the national and international levels, surpassing records of several Bollywood films and this has sparked several controversies.
The controversy began when Ajay Devgn said Hindi is a national language, reacting to Kiccha Sudeep's statement, leading to the ongoing debate between Bollywood and South films. And now, Ranveer Singh has opened up about the ongoing debate. Breaking his silence, the Jayeshbhai Jordaar actor told Bollywood Life that despite no understanding of the language, he watched Pushpa and RRR and was in absolute awe of these films and the craft. "I can only say that I appreciate excellence in craft that the films have showcased and I’m very proud of how wonderfully well they’re doing and how they’ve been accepted by different kinds of audiences," he said adding that these films make him proud and he doesn't look at them as 'others' "Yeh toh sab apna hi hai, yaar; Indian cinema ek hai,” he said.
Ranveer Singh added that he is an artist and does not have lot of knowledge about film business. He is not a trader or a producer, he's a 'paid professional' who gets money for presenting his art. He said he is not that aware about what goes behind the camera. "So, only from my personal point of view, I can say that these films (South movies dubbed in Hindi and marketed as pan-India films) are actually great films as they are,” he said.
On the work front, Ranveer Singh's film Jayeshbhai Jordaar with Shalini Pandey, Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah just released in theatres. He also has a Rohit Shetty film, Cirkus coming up. Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahani and a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, both with Alia Bhatt are also in the pipeline.
