Within two hours of advance opening this morning, the national chains had already sold over 30,000 prints of Jawan, marking an amazing start to the advance. As per reports, both PVR Inox and Cinepolis surpassed 25,000 prints. One lakh in one day would be a record for Jawan at the national chains. The response has been phenomenal, and the film is on track to receive the largest advance ever for a Hindi film.
Phenomenal response within a few hours
As per reports, this was to be expected given the film's excellent trailer; the teaser delivered in terms of action and scope, even if the soundtrack fell short among many. Jawan's promising beginning is less about surpassing Pathaan's record-breaking progress and more about setting a new benchmark for Hindi-language films.
Jawan vs. Pathaan
Box Office India reported that if the current trend continues, Jawaan will easily surpass Pathaan, which is the first Hindi film in history to receive an advance of Rs. 50 crore nett or more. The target audience seems to be the 6.5 lakh people who saw Baahubali: The Conclusion at national chains when national chains had fewer properties and ticket prices were lower. At current prices, this would be an advance that might potentially surpass Rs. 75 crore nett. This is the entire amount of the four-day weekend's pre-release advance.
SRK's turf
As with Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan's home regions of South and West Bengal are expected to lead, but the film also has tremendous potential to rise to the top of the popular Hindi circuits, where it might compete with and even surpass films like KGF 2 and Gadar 2.
About Jawan:
Atlee's high-octane action thriller Jawan depicts the emotional journey of a man who is determined to make society right. Going by the trailer, it can be said that Shah Rukh plays both father and son's roles in the film. The film features Nayanthara as the fearless cop, while Vijay Sethupathi is the main villain. Deepika Padukone is seen in a cameo appearance, while Priya Mani, Sanya Malhotra, Ridhi Dogra, Sunil Grover, and others will be seen in supporting roles.
Jawan is slated to release on September 7, 2023, in IMAX format in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
