Lyca Productions has confirmed the release date of his upcoming production venture Chandramukhi 2, which stars Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence in the lead roles. The movie will arive in cinemas on Septemeber 15, clashing with Vishal's most-ambitious movie Mark Antony.
Tamil Nadu box office is packed
The Tamil Nadu box office is gearing up for a crowded holiday season, with both films targeting the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. However, they must also contend with the formidable Jawan, starring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, which has garnered an enthusiastic response since its recent debut at the Tamil Nadu box office.
Jawan has been warmly embraced by audiences in the state. Even local distribution stakeholders were surprised by the strong opening day box office performance. If Jawan, directed by Atlee, continues to resonate with the masses, it could pose a significant challenge for both Chandramukhi 2 and Mark Antony in terms of securing screen space and attention.
Chandramukhi 2 to get a pan-India release
Chandramukhi 2 has an edge over Mark Antony as it will be released simultaneously across the country in multiple languages. However, Mark Antony will only be released in Tamil and Telugu on September 15, with the Hindi version following two days later.
Chandramukhi 2 will mark Lawrence's first pan-India release as it will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. Given that it stars Kangana as the female lead, it is expected to get a wide release in the Hindi heartland.
Filmmaker P Vasu has also roped in several A-list performers for the supporting cast, including Radhika Sarathkumar, Vadivelu, Lakshmi Menon and Mahima Nambiar.
In Chandramukhi 2, Lawrence has stepped into the shoes of Rajinikanth, whose performance as Vettaiyan was the highlight of the original Chandramukhi. Lawrence has the formidable task of upholding this rich cinematic legacy.
