The pan-Indian releases that kept the box office in India and beyond ringing made 2023 one of the best years for the Indian film industry. This year saw a lot of movies that brought in a lot of money at the box office and had the audience glued to the theatre screens. As the year draws to a close, let's go back and analyse the top 10 box-office successes of the year that were blockbusters. 

1. Jawan

Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan's second release of the year, was even more successful than his first release, Pathaan. The film, which also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi and Deepika Padukone in important parts, is now the highest-grossing Bollywood film, with ₹1,160 crore at the global box office and ₹760 crore gross in India. The film is directed by Atlee and backed by Red Chillies Entertainment.

2. Pathaan

Sidharth Anand's Pathaan stars Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. The film was an instant blockbuster and was the first big release of the year 2023. In addition, the movie was SRK's big-screen comeback after 4 years, and it went on to make over ₹1,055 crore gross at the global box office and ₹657.5 crore gross in India.

3. Animal

Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri, and Rashmika Mandanna, is currently running in theatres and doing quite well at the box office. Its global gross receipts have already surpassed ₹797.6 crore, with over ₹568.4 crore in India

4. Gadar 2

Similar to how Shah Rukh Khan experienced enormous success with Pathaan, Sunny Deol also made a tremendous splash this year with Gadar 2. Gadar 2, which was made on a budget of around ₹80 crore, kept the producers' cash registers ringing even though it was released alongside OMG 2, starring Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar. Gadar 2 minted ₹686 crore worldwide and ₹620.5 crore gross in India.

5. Leo

The action movie starring Thalapathy Vijay became the most successful Tamil film ever made. Leo's global opening weekend took in an astounding ₹148.5 crore, and during its theatrical run, it brought in over ₹620 crore. Additionally, Trisha Krishnan plays a significant role in the movie, in which Sanjay Dutt is the adversary.

6. Jailer

The impact of Rajinikanth's film was felt not just in India but also around the world. After its August 10 global release, this box office success story maintained its winning momentum for more than a month, grossing a total of more than ₹607 crore worldwide.

7. Tiger 3

Tiger 3, along with Tiger Zinda Hai and Ek Tha Tiger, is a part of the Tiger franchise and stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. On a global scale, it has amassed an outstanding total of ₹464 crore, and ₹339.5 crore gross in India.

8. Salaar

On Day 1, the Prabhas-starrer became the 10th Indian film to gross over ₹100 crore globally. Superstar Prabhas brought the strength he demonstrated in blockbusters like Baahubali and Saaho to his fierce depiction of Deva in Salaar. The film has made ₹402 crore at the worldwide box office and is still running strong in theatres despite competition from Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki.

9. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is directed by Karan Johar and stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. At the worldwide box office, the movie made ₹355.61 crore and was a commercial success. Since his 1998 debut, Karan has made a string of successful films, including the family dramedy.

10. Adipurush

Adipurush is an adaptation of the epic Ramayana. Despite receiving conflicting reviews from critics and moviegoers, Prabhas and Kriti Sanon's film went on to earn an astounding ₹393 crore gross globally and ₹343 crore gross in India.
