Jawan, Jailer, Animal: All big-budget blockbusters gearing up for release in August

It's an understatement to say Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan is the most-awaited movie of 2023. Not just in the Hindi belt, the movie has generated unprecedented interest even in the southern states, thanks to director Atlee and the strong presence of South Indian stars in its cast. Jawan was expected to arrive in cinemas on June 2. However, the industry is abuzz with reports that the producers have postponed the release owing to production reasons.  

According to reports, the movie's special effects work requires more time than what was expected earlier, forcing the filmmakers to change their release plans. However, the post-production work is going in full swing. Atlee is in Mumbai overseeing the dubbing work. Nayanthara is also in the city to complete her dubbing.

The latest buzz is that Jawan is now aiming for a release date in August. Speculations are rife that Jawan is likely to release on August 25, ending the summer with a bang. However, an official confirmation on the same is awaited. 

Not just Jawan, some of the most awaited movies from other languages are also gearing up to light up our big screens in August. 

On Thursday, the producers of Superstar Rajinikanth's upcoming movie Jailer released a promo video and confirmed its release date as August 11. The announcement could affect the release plans of other southern movies. For instance, Maaveeran. It remains to be seen whether the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer will change its release date to avoid a box-office clash with the Rajinikanth-starrer. 

Here is a list of the big movies coming out in August this year:

Jawan:

Written and directed by Atlee, the film features Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra and Priyamani in pivotal roles. The film is expected to be a high-voltage action drama. It's expected in cinemas on August 25. 

Maaveeran:

Sivakarthikeyan takes on the mantle of an action hero in this movie, which is written and directed by Madonne Ashwin of Mandela fame. The movie stars Aditi Shankar, Yogi Babu and Mysskin in key roles. The film will release on August 11. 

Jailer:

Written and directed by Nelson, the action drama boasts a star-studded cast, including Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, and Shivarajkumar. The movie is due in cinemas on August 11. 

King of Kotha: 

It's one of the most-awaited movies in Malayalam this year. Starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role, the gangster drama is helmed by Abhilash Joshiy. It stars Gokul Suresh, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Chemban Vinod Jose, and Prasana in the supporting cast. The movie is expected to arrive in cinemas on August 24. 

Animal:

Animal is Sandeep Reddy Vanga's upcoming directorial outing after the blockbuster Kabir Singh. Billed as a gangster drama, the movie stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra and Bobby Deol in the lead roles. The film is expected to release in theatres on August 11. 

Bhola Shankar:

The Telugu remake of Tamil hit Vedhalam, the action drama stars Chiranjeevi in the lead. And the film has Tamannaah and Keerthy Suresh as female leads. Directed by Meher Ramesh, Bhola Shankar will release in theatres on August 11.
