Jawan ending explained: Like LCU, Atlee's building ACU with Shah Rukh Khan and Thalapathy Vijay?

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's latest movie Jawan has opened to a rousing reception from fans across the world. It's a classic Lion King-themed movie, meaning the son avenging the father. But, there is a little twist — unlike Mufasa, in Jawan, the father survives the attempt on his life and later joins forces with his son to defeat the forces of evil. 

Jawan is director Atlee's big Bollywood debut. He has brought all the familiar tropes and story-telling styles, mixing escapism with serious social and political issues and other cinematic elements that define the typical Tamil mainstream movies to the Hindi film industry. It's his gift to the industry, which rarely addresses pressing issues of common people in its blockbusters.

Jawan is a classic good versus evil story

In Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan plays both father and son which was very clear from the trailer. SRK jr is named Azad, while the senior is called Vikram Rathore. Azad is a highly accomplished police officer, while Vikram is a decorated war hero, whose life was ruined by accusations of betraying the nation for personal gain.

Fast forward 30 years, and, Azad is trying to remove the stain on his father's name. The story engine goes into high gear with a series of hijacks, daring escapes and heartening backstory. And nearly 3 hours later, when the end credits begin to roll, the story is not over yet. Both the father-son duo are now getting ready for a new mission. It's clear that Jawan was not the end, but possibly the beginning of a new movie franchise.

Is there a Theri connect in Jawan?

An intriguing thought might occur to you if you have watched Atlee's blockbuster Theri. The 2016 cop drama ends with a similar epilogue where we see Thalapathy Vijay getting the details of his next assignment. And one can't help but wonder, like Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), is Atlee building an ACU, Atlee Cinematic Universe?

It's noteworthy that in a recent interview, Atlee expressed his interest in making a movie with Vijay and Shah Rukh Khan in the cast.
