Shah Rukh Khan-starrer rewrote the previous record of Pathaan, to take home a massive opening-day gross from Kerala alone

For those who have kept an eye on the advance booking of Jawan in Kerala , it really shouldn’t have come as a surprise that the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, helmed by Tamil filmmaker Atlee, would set a new record for a Bollywood film in the State.
Following its pre-release ticket sales rampage, Jawan kicked off in Kerala with the highest-ever opening-day gross for a Bollywood film with a collection of Rs 3.57 crore, as per trade analysts. This is also within the range that was predicted by the trackers, if the film’s content lived up to the expectations of the audience and if it had positive feedback following its initial shows.
Jawan on track for setting new box office records in Kerala
While the film fell short of breaking Rajinikanth’s Jailer or even Dulquer Salmaan’s King of Kotha’s opening-day figures , which were above Rs 5.7 crore. That said the film did enter the top five highest opening-day grossers in Kerala, surpassing Pathaan’s Day 1 figures of Rs 1.95 crore. Jawan is preceded by Varisu and Ponniyin Selvan 2, which took home Rs 4.45 crore and Rs 2.82 crore in Kerala.

In the process, Jawan also became the first-ever Bollywood film to have sold over 2 lakh tickets on its opening day in Kerala. The Atlee directorial, which also has Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Priya Mani in pivotal roles, had released in 300-plus theatres in Kerala. Its distribution rights were reportedly purchased for Rs 7 crore by Sree Gokulam films. The movie has already taken home Rs 10.5 crore from Kerala and Tamil Nadu box office and is set for a solid weekend.
Jawan OTT partner
The movie, which has the actor playing a double role – that of a former soldier and a jailer, opened to theatres worldwide on September 7 and has already become the highest opening-day grosser in Hindi, raking in Rs 75 crore from India alone.
Jawan’s OTT rights have been bagged by Netflix and the platform is expected to begin streami ng the film in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu after its theatrical run.
