In the last few weeks, as the release of Jawan grew close, there was a lot of frenetic speculation on social media about the possible ‘superstar’ cameos that the Shah Rukh Khan-led film could have. After the super successful reception that Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar got for their cameos in Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer, netizens were sure that director Atlee would include a few in his much-hyped film as well. Considering that the filmmaker has made not one, but three films with Thalapathy Vijay, the Tamil super star was the leading name in this race for probable cameos in Jawan, a rumour that Atlee shot down only a day ago. Pushpa star Allu Arjun was also believed to have a few minutes-worth of screen time.
(Spoilers ahead) But when the film opened in theatres early today, it turned out that Atlee had slipped in a special role after all. Bollywood’s popular ‘Nayak nahi, Khalnayak’, Sanjay Dutt is the only star cameo after all in the film . But this was not exactly a surprise addition. Way back in March this year it was reported that Sanjay, who is currently a filmmaker’s darling in the south after his outing as KGF: Chapter 2’s Adheera, will be seen in the Atlee film. Sanjay’s cameo was, apparently, the role that had been offered to Allu Arjun earlier, but owing to scheduling conflicts, the Pushpa star could not accommodate the same.
Jawan has begun its box office journey with a big opening, which, trade experts say rivals his earlier release, Pathan. The film, which boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Priya Mani, Deepika Padukone, among many others, has record number of screens/shows in most cities that it is releasing. The film is available in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil audio, with some sections of audiences decrying the absence of Kannada and Malayalam dubbed versions.
