There seems to be no stopping Shah Rukh Khan in Kerala in 2023. The actor’s previous film Pathaan had set the record for the highest advance booking for a Hindi film as well as the highest opening-day Bollywood grosser in Kerala. His upcoming movie Jawan has already broken the first one and is well on track to surpass the second too.
Jawan, which is directed by Atlee and has South superstars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi as part of its cast, is among the most-anticipated movies in the country this year and the ticket sales pre-release reflects the same.
Jawan crosses Pathaan in advance ticket sales in Kerala
Jawan, which is touted to be an action entertainer, has already crossed the record held by Pathaan for the highest pre-release ticket sales at Rs 73 lakh. By Tuesday evening, the film has already crossed Rs 80 lakh and is on course for grossing Rs 1 Cr from advance ticket sales alone ahead of its September 7 release.
The hype for the film, according to trade analysts, could also make it eclipse Pathaan’s Day 1 box-office collections, which is at Rs 1.95 crore. Industry trackers predict that the film will earn Rs 2 crore by the end of Day 1, irrespective of the reviews. But if the feedback is positive, this could result in a mammoth turnover of close to Rs 3CR+, an all-time record for a Bollywood film in Kerala that will be hard to beat.
Jawan gets a massive release in Kerala
The SRK-starrer, which will be releasing in Hindi as well as Tamil in the State, will have fan shows as early as 5.55am. Incidentally, most of these are driven by fans of Thalapathy Vijay , who had worked with Jawan’s director Atlee in films such as Theri, Mersal and Bigil. Fans are also expecting a cameo from the Tamil superstar, even though he had recently brushed aside rumours of the same.
Jawan, which is distributed by Sree Gokulam films in Tamil Nadu and Kerala , will be releasing in 300-plus theatres in the latter State and the makers will be hoping that it surpasses Pathaan’s all-time record of the highest grossing Hindi film in Kerala too. The film’s Kerala distribution rights were reportedly purchased for Rs 7Cr.
