Karthi and Raju Murugan's maiden outing Japan dropped in theatres today. The film, which revolves around an eccentric thief, Japan Muni, has opened to negative reviews from the audience, with critics and audience both giving the film a  thumbs down.

OTTplay critic P Sangeetha wrote, "Karthi's 25th film Japan barely entertains and ends up as a damp squib.The Raju Murugan film is a complete misfire on all aspects."


One of the social media users wrote, "Japan -  Honest Review Pros : - Theatre ambience - Safe Parking lot - Unlimited Popcorn - Proper Sound system - Perfect AC temperature - Proper seating with correct level adjustments Cons : - #Japan movie (sic)."

Some have even gone on to call the film the worst in Karthi's career. "Our rating - 1.5/5 Probably Karthi’s worst film in his career.Positives: Few one liners from Karthi Negatives: Story Screenplay Direction Everything (sic)."

Many have dismissed the story as lacklustre and some have even gone on to say that the film is irritating.

In the meantime, Karthi watched the FDFS with his fans at Kasi theatre, Chennai. The actor arrived at the packed theatre and was received with an overwhelming applause. The actor was dressed in a casual white shirt along with a cap.

The cast and crew
The star cast includes Anu Emmanuel, Jithan Ramesh, KS Ravikumar, Sunil, Vijay Milton, Vaagai Chandrasekar and Bava Chelladurai to name a few. While GV Prakash Kumar has scored the music, cinematography is by Ravi Varman, and editing is by Philomin Raj.

Japan released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam in theatres worldwide today. The film locked horns with Karthik Subbaraj's Jigarthanda Double X and Vikram Prabhu's Raid. Japan, produced by SR Prabhu's Dream Warrior Productions will also be releasing in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam with the same title.
