In what could be said as sad news, veteran Telugu actress, Jamuna passed away earlier today in Hyderabad. She was suffering from age-related issues for quite some time now. Jamuna was 86 and is survived by her son Vamsee Juluri and daughter Sravanthi. The news came out as one of her family members revealed it to the media this morning.

Though Jamuna was a Telugu actress, she was from Hampi Karnataka and Jana Bai was her original name. One of the directors from her earlier films gave her that name. Jamuna started her career early in school and performed on stage from a very young age. One of the noted film personalities from those time, Dr. Garikipati Raja Rao watched her stage show Maa Bhoomi and roped her in his film Puttillu in 1952.

Puttillu was a big hit and there was no looking back for Jamuna. She went on to act in over 200 films in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. Not many know that she won the Filmfare award for best supporting actress for her solid performance in Milan(1967) which was also a remake of the hit Telugu film Mooga Manasulu. Jamuna is known for her style of subtle acting. She was known for her fashionable Sarees, which created a trend in the 70s.

Jamuna's husband, a zoology professor passed away in 2014. Jamuna was quite active in the film industry until recently and used to attend a lot of film functions. She was also taking care of a few issues of the working lot within the film industry. After a long haul of sickness, she passed away today. The funeral will be held tomorrow as per the news.
