Malayalam cinema is slowly but surely entering into an experimental phase. After Arun Chandu's science fiction mockumentary Gaganachari in 2024, Malayalam is foraying into the zombie world with Jambi. The Malayalam zombie movie, directed by George Kora, will also feature Pearle Maaney.
Weekend Blockbusters, known for delivering hit movies such as Bangalore Days, Minnal Murali and RDX, have announced their next production – Jambi. The film will be helmed by actor-director George Kora, and scripted by Nandhu Manoj, Harikrishnan KR and George Kora.
Announcing the new zombie movie, the makers released a pulsating motion poster that features a Velichappadu (oracle) in the middle of a crowd along with a folk song and thumping background score. The film will release in 2026.
While sharing the promo, the makers wrote on social media - “In a world where the past refuses to rest, the Z̶o̶m̶b̶i̶e̶ ̶…JAMBI will rise.”
A popular YouTuber, Pearle Maaney has also acted in films. While sharing the Jambi promo on her social media page, Pearle Maaney said that she and her husband Srinish will also be part of the Malayalam zombie movie.
Director George Kora is known for his movies such as Tholvi FC and Thirike.
Jambi is being produced by Sophia Paul, under the Weekend Blockbusters banner.
Weekend Blockbusters had earlier produced the superhero film Minnal Murali, which starred Tovino Thomas in the lead role. Helmed by Basil Joseph, the 2021 film narrated the tale of tailor Jaison who gains superpowers after he is struck by lightning but meets a formidable enemy in his own village. The popular film is available for streaming on Netflix.
Weekend Blockbusters had also announced another movie Detective Ujjwalan with Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead. The movie wrapped its shoot earlier this week, though a release date is yet to be announced. It will be their first theatrical release after Shane Nigam-starrer RDX, which hit theatres during Onam in 2023.
