The makers of Tamil upcoming film, Jama, unveiled its official trailer today (July 30), ahead of its theatrical release. The intense drama is set to hit the big screens on August 2. If released on the said date, Jama will be running in theatres along with Yogi Babu's Boat and Vijay Antony's Mazhai Pidikkatha Manithan.
The life of a Therukoothu artist, who plays mostly female roles in the artform, is depicted in the two minutes and 58 second video. He is shown as someone who is constantly taunted for not being finding a life partner because of his feminine mindset and gestures. But he gets into a relationship with the daughter of his Jama's leader, who takes over the former's father's position as leader of the troupe. The main character's love and reclaiming of the power that his father had are anticipated to be the main themes of the movie, indicating an engaging but poignant drama.
Director Pari Elavazhagan, who is playing the film's lead role, provided additional information about the art form in a previous interview with Cinema Express. "A Jama is a collective of therukoothu. Two artists who create a jama together are at the centre of the tale, he explained. Pari continued by saying that the main plot of the movie revolves around the protagonist's attempt to get back the leadership position that his father previously lost.
With this movie, Pari makes his directorial debut in addition to writing the screenplay. The entirety of Jama was shot in and around Thiruvannamalai. Important roles in this film are also played by Ammu Abhirami and Chetan. In supporting parts in Jama are Vasant Marimuthu, Sri Krishna Dayal, KVN Manimegalai, Siva Maran, A K Elavazhagan, and Kaala Kumar. It is bankrolled by Sai Devanand S, Sasikala S and Sai Venkateswaran S under the banner of SSBV Learn and Teach Production Private Limited.
